Kinze Design Engineer in Williamsburg, Iowa

Position Summary Electrical design engineer with proven experience in wire harness design and related product development including testing, validation, and documentation. Collaborate with electronic hardware engineers and CAD designers to develop rugged wire harnesses, connectors, and electronic enclosures.

Duties & Accountabilities

  • Develop machine wiring harness architecture and functional schematic

  • Specify electrical components and circuit protection devices

  • Verify and validate harness designs

  • Specify appropriate device-to-device wire conductor and insulation

  • Conduct analysis such as current carrying analysis, voltage drop analysis, and repetitive motion analysis, and generate specifications such as wire gauge, length, breakouts, pinch avoidance, etc.

  • Specify and design harness retention means

  • Design CAN, LIN, RS232, Ethernet interconnect systems

  • Design Proof of Concept Harnesses in early development to support machine prototypes

  • Determine proper wire routing and installation

  • Assist in the implementation, integration, and verification of electromechanical, electronic, and electrical systems

  • Conduct root cause analysis for concerns identified during development and field testing followed by implementing changes

  • Create and maintain project schedule for harness development activities

  • Provide technical mentoring to harness designers

  • Collaborate with and technically manage suppliers

  • Strong design and analytical skills to support proof-of-concept, development and validation/verification testing

  • Experience with 3D solid modeling and design (Inventor, SolidWorks, or similar)

  • Familiarity with IPC-A-610 & 620, Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies is a plus

  • Develop and design agricultural equipment

  • Metal component design experience and understanding of fabrication methods.

  • Structural simulation and analysis (Inventor, SolidWorks or similar)

  • 3D and prototype fabrication

  • Experience with development projects with suppliers

  • Responsible for ensuring milestones and goals for assigned projects are achieved through project management

  • Good understanding and ability to document technical specifications

Specifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering

  • Prefer at least 2 years of related experience

  • Experience with heavy agricultural machinery, off road equipment, or heavy industrial equipment is a plus

  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to bread complex opportunities/issues/obstacles down into executable action items

  • Experience with CFD, Solidworks, and Inventor is a plus
