Position Description

The E&C Technician position performs activities required for the safe, reliable, and cost effective operation of natural gas compression and associated pipeline facilities assigned to District 108, Truro, Iowa. These facilities include pipelines, compressor facilities, measurement stations and all related systems and equipment. The E&C Technician will be a multi-skilled employee capable of performing technical work within the stations geographic district.

Duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, calibrate, and adjust various pneumatic, hydraulic, electric, and electronic systems associated compressor station facilities and various pipeline facilities as required. This includes various high, medium and low voltage distribution/motor control systems and related equipment.

  • Perform required Inspection and Maintenance (I & M) checks on all control systems and applicable equipment.

  • Maintain electrical switch gear and power distribution.

    • Maintain control valves, relief valves, regulators and associated software.
  • Perform advanced engine/compressor/pump analytical testing. Lead efforts to develop and implement changes as a result of the analytical testing.

  • Assist Engineering personnel with the evaluation / development / implementation / maintenance of facility equipment.

  • Install, analyze and repair gas detection monitors and other gas quality and safety systems as required

  • Responsible for the general upkeep and maintenance of all facilities and equipment as needed.

  • Oversee the construction and/or maintenance activities performed by third parties.

  • Identify, report and correct safety and environmental concerns.

  • Complete appropriate documentation and paperwork.

  • Perform all work in compliance with Company standards, procedures, and regulatory and tariff requirements.

  • Demonstrate performance toward operational excellence.

  • Mentor fellow employees when the opportunity presents itself.

Position Requirements

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

-High school diploma or GED- Associate degree in a technical field, or equivalent skills and experience.

Applicable job related work experience for candidates in lieu of technical degrees will be considered.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:- Ability to troubleshoot pneumatic, electronic, and electrical equipment and controls.- Ability to perform basic mechanical work associated with natural gas facilities.- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.- Ability to actively support the region's safety program.- Ability to effectively organize, plan, prioritize, document, and complete work with a minimum of supervision.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to work alone or in a group environment.

  • Work in and around industrial settings which may include hazardous products as well as extreme temperature and noise conditions and require appropriate personal protection equipment. - Ability to work in a team environment, take direction from Supervisors, keep required job schedules, focus on details, and follow work rules.- Must possess math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and decimals).- Must be proficient in computer software applications including Microsoft Office products.- Must be able to manipulate and develop spreadsheets and databases, as well as other computer based work training, time reporting, expense reporting and online work applications and documentation as may be required.- Must be able to accurately and timely maintain compliance records, reports and other required documentation.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Physical Requirements include but are not limited to:

  • Must be able to withstand extreme conditions. Perform work as necessary in all environmental conditions.

  • Must be able to walk up and down stairs/ladders, be able to negotiate uneven surfaces and have the ability to carry up to 50 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

-Occasional and rare overnight travel maybe required.- Maintain a regular, dependable attendance and high level of performance.- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and have a driving record acceptable to the company.- Will be required to carry a company-provided cell phone/pager and must be available to respond to call-outs as required and be able to work overtime on an as needed basis. Call-outs and overtime will occur outside of normal working hours and will include nights, weekends and possibly Holidays.

  • Successful completion of a background check and drug screen prior to being hired.- Other related duties as assigned.

  • Must be able to progress through a company required evaluation and progression system with performance testing at proscribed intervals. Successful completion of the progression system is a requirement for continued employment.

  • Testing will include written, oral and hands on ability demonstrations.PREFERRED EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:- Journeyman or Masters electrical license- Work experience in natural gas industry instrumentation, electronics, and control systems- Understanding of process controls and gas processing fundamentals- Knowledge and experience in safe handling practices of flammable gases, liquids and high pressure systems- Knowledge and experience with high pressure gas, processing equipment, pumps and reciprocating or gas turbine engines and compressors- Knowledge of company policies and practices, and regulatory and tariff requirements.

-Mechanical aptitude with ability to learn and perform operation and maintenance tasks
