Tyson Foods Intern - Pork Procurement (Storm Lake, IA) in Storm Lake, Iowa

Work Shift:

1ST SHIFT (United States of America)

SUMMARY: As a Hog Buyer Summer Intern, you can expect to not only learn activities associated with procuring and handling hogs, but also be introduced to other departments within our pork division. Throughout the 10 to 12 week period you will have hands on experience, receiving, weighing, tattooing, and penning of hogs in an environment that focuses on proper AWB and comfort of the animals. You will be booking loads for local hog deliveries and keeping an effective book schedule for accuracy in maintaining plant slaughter operations. You will have the opportunity to train in grade and yield kill sheet information, weight docks, and other buying procedures. You will also have the opportunity to shadow a current buyer in the field. Upon completion of your internship, you will have acquired a direct understanding of the requirements involved in purchasing a continual supply of quality raw material. You will also fully comprehend Tyson's buying practices that can position you well for advancement in becoming a Livestock Buyer.


Education: Students will be sourced from a 2 or 4 year college or university program. Must be in good standing.

Experience: Previous swine experience preferred.

Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills are a must.

Other requirements: Must be highly motivated in running a successful business.

Position Specific Requirements: This is a 10-12 week Internship and is tentatively scheduled to start middle May and end middle of August. Must be enrolled in a college or university with degree-seeking status. Housing assistance is available for qualified candidates.
