The Security Guard maintains a safe and secure environment for team members, customers, and guests. This position protects equipment, property and team members through enforcement of company policies. This role maintains a high visibility presence to prevent illegal or inappropriate actions with the responsibilities to detect, deter, observe and report. This position is responsible for the entire Pella campus and will require flexible hours to meet the 24 hours/seven days a week demand.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Demonstrate the Vermeer characteristics of caring culture, demonstrating agility, customer focused, and stewardship and model the associated behaviors.

  2. Secure premises and team members by conducting internal and external inspection rounds, monitoring surveillance equipment, inspecting buildings, and maintaining security logs and equipment.

  3. Prevent loss and damage by reporting irregularities, informing violators of company policies and procedures, and summoning external support for emergency situations.

  4. Monitor on-site vehicle traffic and monitor access of materials in and out of facilities. Assist with company vehicle traffic as necessary.

  5. Investigate and document all security incidents. When needed, transport non-emergent injured employees to local licensed medical facilities for care. Oversee all emergency calls and serve as a liaison with management and local authorities, as required.

  6. Complete reports by recording observations, information, occurrences, and surveillance activities, interviewing witnesses, and obtaining signatures.

Education and/or Experience

  • High School diploma with a minimum of 2 years’ experience/education in security, military, or customer service, or public service related field.

Other Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of public safety and security procedures/protocols.

  • Surveillance skills, ability to operate security cameras and various security equipment.

  • Knowledge in the area of site security and investigation.

  • Ability to remain calm under pressure with emergency situations.

  • Ability to handle confidential materials such as security documents and corporate mail.

  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

  • Demonstration of professional oral and written communication skills when working with the public/customers and co-workers.

  • Maintain positive interpersonal relationships which encourage openness with customers and peers. The ability to leave a positive impression upon those you meet.

  • Ability to produce accurate, professional and error-free documents in a timely manner.

  • High level of integrity and professionalism.
