TITLE:Cook/Cashier

APPROX. HOURS: 8:00 AM - 1:30 PM

JOB SUMMARY: To prepare and serve nutritious meals to students

The employee will frequently work in different areas of the kitchen and cafeteria performing their duties.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must possess any combination of education and experience equivalent to completion of high school.
  2. Strong customer service skills.
  3. Good communication skills with students, co-workers and other school staff.
  4. Required to frequently stand for prolonged periods, walk, use hands and fingers to handle objects, serving utensils and equipment controls, food preparation equipment and food.
  5. Ability to work under pressure with frequent interruptions.
  6. Ability to handle multiple tasks and work independently.
  7. Able to prioritize and plan work activities and use of time efficiently.
  8. Ability to approach others in a tactful manner.
  9. Ability to follow instructions and respond to supervisor direction and take responsibility for own actions.
  10. Knowledge of cooking procedures and equipment helpful.
  11. Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition and grammar.
  12. Able to pass back ground check completed prior to hire.
  13. Ability to pass physical ability exam proving lifting ability of 30 lbs, provided by employer prior to hire.
  14. Must be ServSafe certified within the first year of employment and keep certification current. Course and testing will be provided by employer.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Performs tasks assigned by the Kitchen Manager and Food and Nutrition Director.
  2. Prepares food according to standardized recipes using proper food safety procedures.
  3. Operates equipment and performs work tasks in a safe and sanitary manner.
  4. Cleans and maintains school food service equipment and facilities.
  5. Serves food according to portion sizes outlined in state guidelines and using proper food safety procedures.
  6. Maintains positive relations with students and staff.
  7. Assists Kitchen Manager with record keeping, such as daily food production records and with inventory and food ordering processes.
  8. Training will be provided for all kitchen tasks at a graduated level as determined by the Kitchen Manager and tasks are to be completed timely and efficiently.
  9. Must maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality when dealing with student, staff and/or parent information.
  10. Ability to follow policies and procedures as set by the District and the School Food and Nutrition program.
  11. Regular attendance.
  12. Other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Duties are typically performed in areas related to the cafeteria and kitchen. Work is typically performed walking or standing. Physical stamina is required to tolerate continuous standing, stooping, reaching, grasping, kneeling, walking, bending and lifting of objects weight up to approximately 30 pounds is required. Staff is required to use proper lifting techniques and proper equipment for ease in physical demands such as utility carts, can racks, dunnage racks and stepping stools as provided. The ability to withstand temperature variances common to food service facilities is required. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities. Cooks are in daily contact w th teachers, students, administration, the general public and other work related personnel. The ability to communicate through the proper channels to handle complaints, express a service-oriented attitude, communicate effectively with others and work with co-workers well, in a possible small work environment, is expected.
