Indian Hills Community College Instructor, Nursing Clinical in Ottumwa, Iowa

Job Summary:

Under the direct supervision of the Department Chair of Nursing and Simulation, this instructor will teach nursing clinical courses as assigned. Will select clinical nursing learning experiences at hospitals and other health care agencies for assigned students in the nursing programs. Will supervise students providing nursing care and evaluate their progress.

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Graduate of an approved School of Nursing with licensure as a registered nurse in Iowa or a compact state or the ability to obtain one.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN).

  • Three years of full-time clinical nursing, minimum of 1 year in medical-surgical nursing.

  • Certified in minimum of Healthcare BLS; BLS Instructor Preferred

  • Must relate well to students and colleagues, and create a learning environment conducive to student learning.

  • Must demonstrate a high degree of competency within the discipline to be taught.

    Work Performed:

  • Develop implement and evaluate the purpose, philosophy/mission and objectives of the nursing programs.

  • Teach courses in accordance with objectives of the course outline as set forth by the division using a variety of instructional methods and technologies that facilitates learning for all students.

  • Organize and present various concepts to a wide range of students with varying backgrounds and abilities, and adjust teaching techniques accordingly.

  • Design, implement, evaluate and revise the nursing curriculum utilizing the IHCC curriculum development and revision guide.

  • Develop, maintain and submit current course syllabi/outlines for assigned courses each term.

  • Assist in planning and carrying out studies and surveys.

  • Select clinical learning experiences for assigned nursing students at affiliating health care agencies.

  • Supervise students applying nursing principles and providing nursing care.

  • Maintain cooperative relationships with professional personnel and clinical staff.

  • Assist in maintaining public relations with the local community and take part in community relations when possible.

  • Actively participate in program promotion and recruitment of students.

  • Represent the College in the most positive manner with prospective, former and current students, clients, and the community.

  • Meet all assigned classes and office commitments as scheduled.

  • Attend and participate in all scheduled faculty meetings unless excused by the division dean.

  • Emphasize to students the importance of prompt and regular clinical attendance.

  • Consistently and accurately maintain and record attendance.

  • Measure and evaluate student progress using the appropriate departmental competency- based format and maintain accurate and up to date student course grades throughout the course.

  • Prepare and submit accurate grade reports and evaluations as requested and send clinical evaluation forms for each student to the Department Chair on the last day of each term.

  • Submit appropriate referrals for students in need of services. Appropriately report student conduct matters in a timely manner.

  • Serve actively on any committee to which appointed.

  • Work collaboratively as a subject matter expert to develop curriculum or provide discipline specific instruction within credit and non-credit areas of the college as needed.

  • Stay up to date with trends in the field.

  • Prepare for and report in the program review and assessment processes.

  • Meet the standards of the college’s Quality Faculty Plan.

  • Maintain regular and consistent attendance at work.

  • Instill a realistic work attitude in students with clear expectations for skill development.

  • Inject relevant personal work experience into the instructional setting to aide in the preparation of each student for entry into employment.

  • Attend career fairs, recruiting events and community events to promote the academic program, club and/or college.

  • Lead and/or participate in the biannual advisory committee meetings, contributing to the meeting agenda and seeking input from advisors.

  • Maintain professional appearance.

  • Other duties as may be assigned.

3.5 Terms, Full Time, Benefits

Schedule:

9 hrs/day, Monday-Thursday

Salary Range:

$52,485.00 - 57,832.00
