Process Engineer

Monsanto is seeking a highly motivated individual to join the Muscatine, Iowa plant as a Process Engineer. The plant is located south of Muscatine along the Mississippi River and manufactures a wide variety of crop protection products, including Roundup ® , the world's best-selling herbicide. The person in this role will serve as a critical technical resource to lead and/or support plant optimization efforts, providing engineering support for a manufacturing unit. Deliverables include statistical monitoring of production parameters and identification, definition, and cost analysis of improvement projects. Effective Process Engineers provide technical support to troubleshoot and solve problems in their production areas.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Assist production and maintenance personnel in troubleshooting and correcting problems related to yields, capacity, quality, environmental compliance and/or safety

  • Create and modify documentation related to process operation, safety, and applicable environmental regulations, as needed

  • Identify and work to implement improvement projects related to safety, yields, capacity, quality, or cost improvement

  • Track key performance indicators and conversion costs pertinent to monthly raw material usage, product volumes, and technical practices

  • Report daily production and regulatory compliance

  • Operate within corporate guidelines

Qualifications:

  • B.S. Engineering – Chemical preferred (Will consider May 2018 graduates) Desirable Skills:

  • 5 Years Engineering experience in chemical manufacturing environment

  • Previous Engineering Internship or Coop assignment in chemical manufacturing or similar environment

  • Experience in process design, including fluid flow, heat transfer and unit operations

  • Process modeling

  • Knowledge of environmental and safety rules and regulations

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Statistical Process Control and Statistical Quality Control

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a high degree of personal initiative

  • Ability to work well in a team environment and inclusive cultureDescription of Specific Work Conditions and Physical Requirements:

Position is in a manufacturing environment and requires the ability to ascend and descend stairs on a regular basis. Position also requires the ability to access all areas of the production facility to troubleshoot and develop projects. Troubleshooting will infrequently require the employee to lift items weighing up to 50lbs. Use of a Full-Face Respirator required for work with materials, if applicable. Limited amounts of travel are expected to visit vendors, warehouse sites, corporate offices, other manufacturing sites, and personal development classes.
