Position Title: Unit Services Area Leader

The Area Lead reports to the Business Unit Lead and is a member of the Site Leadership Team, supporting plant operations. The Area Lead is responsible for leading an Area Unit, ensuring that processes operate in a safe, responsible, reliable and efficient manner to meet the needs of the business. They also are responsible for understanding the gains derived from implementing world class manufacturing techniques, and achieving results through innovation, staff empowerment, process improvement, coordination of work and regional collaboration.

Responsibilities of the Position :

  • Optimizes people performance and development through mentoring, coaching, training, recognition, creation of progression plans, appraisals/reviews, discipline, documentation, follow-up, and providing developmental opportunities

  • Ensure adherence to robust Environmental Safety & Health (ESH) & Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) programs

  • Strategic planning/budget/forecast/capital management

  • Responsible for reliability targets and proactively identifies potential issues that prevents the site/area from meeting these objectives

  • Champion lean maturity progression and deliver on performance improvement targets at the area level

  • Drive the use of visual boards to ensure that pace and quality of area production are made visible and effectively leveraged to solve problems and sustain gains

  • Compute progress against metrics by collecting data from line-level visual boards (e.g. OEE, production to plan, yield)

  • Follow up on Tier 2 identified opportunities, resource needs and system changes

  • Drive delivery of area objectives, operational improvements, metrics tracking and adoption of best practices leveraging team members and peers

  • Conduct Leaders Standard Work practices, such as Gemba Walks observing the operators’ work and potential abnormalities, coaching and mentoring people in the improvement process and culture evolution

  • Facilitate cross-site communication by interfacing between plant / field leadership and personnel

  • Coordinate with off-site counterparts to resolve identified area / business issues

  • Engage in community involvement to cultivate trust and promote a positive image of the plant

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor Degree, Engineering degree preferred

  • Minimum of a BS with 1 year of leadership and management experience in a manufacturing or agricultural environment

  • Three years engineering experience in a manufacturing environment

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Programs.

  • This position requires strong skills in oral/written communication, time, task, and project management, priority setting, decision making, resource allocation, budgeting and cost management, and people leadership including coaching, influencing, conflict resolution, team/individual goal setting, and effective performance management.

Desired Skills/Experience:

  • At least five years manufacturing or engineering

  • Experience with agriculture and crop manufacturing

  • Experience working and leading in a matrix production structures

  • Computer knowledge to include SAP

  • Experience working and leading in a matrix production structures

  • Working knowledge of Lean improvement principles such as 5S, Focused Improvement, Visual Management, Gemba Walk and Teamwork to drive continuous improvement and sustainable change

  • Experience with leading a production work shift in a manufacturing environment with a 24/7 rotating shift schedule with overtime

  • Some understanding of multiple engineering disciplines

  • The ability to read and understand engineering flow diagrams

  • Understanding of chemical processes in a chemical manufacturing environment.

Specific Work Conditions and Physical Requirements:

Manufacturing office environment combined with some plant process management activities including working around agricultural chemicals and equipment. This position requires the ability to use a computer and keyboard for extended periods of time and the ability to work a full eight-hour day within the flexible schedule of 6:00am to 5:30 pm. Limited travel and after-hours support of critical needs is expected
