About the job:
Under general supervision, is responsible for technical and administrative operations of all lab sections at the MercyOne Siouxland Clinical Laboratory including Hematology, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Special Chemistry and Immunohematology. In collaboration with the Director Lab Services and Pathologists, maintains oversight of the operation of the MercyOne Siouxland Laboratory including patient testing, timely reporting of results, quality control/standards, policies/procedures, performance improvement, scheduling, staff development, equipment, supplies and student education/training, developing/managing budgets, maximizing efficiency, clinic client satisfaction, courier service/specimen transport, growth and maintenance of outreach services, minimizing resource utilization, and fiscal responsibility.
What you will do:
Demonstrates the knowledge and skills to relate not only to individual patients, but also to the business and service needs of the outreach customers, generally represented by physician clinic office managers and staff.
Serves as technical supervisor for individual departments including Immunohematology, Hematology, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Chemistry and Special Chemistry as well as manage day to day operations at the MercyOne Siouxland Laboratory.
Have a general knowledge of billing issues relevant to third party payors (including Medicare, Medicaid and other commercial insurers), as well as regulatory issues.
Focus on employee engagement through employee survey results analysis and action planning.
Work schedules to include flex staffing as appropriate to support overall operational goals.
HR functions to include interview and recommend new
hires, evaluations, disciplinary actions, recommendations related to job performance, and staff development/training.
Assures highest quality test results by utilizing of quality control materials/ procedures, calibrators, reference materials, proficiency testing, Quality Improvement/Performance Improvement initiatives, competency training/documentation, and on-going review.
Assures quality/efficiency by making recommendations to the Medical Director, Laboratory Director, and Laboratory Leadership Team (LLT) related to medical, administrative and operational matters.
Is responsible for implementing new procedures as indicated to enhance patient care, revenue, and marketability of department.
Is responsible for financial operations at the MMC Lab:
Computer updates to assure billing functionality
Operational, Capital, and Staffing budgets
On-going development/review of management reports
Assures that Policy and Procedure Manuals reflect current practice and are consistent with industry standards of care/protocol.
What we are looking for:
BA or BS degree in Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, Medical Technology, Microbiology Molecular Biology, Genetics, or health-related science. Graduate degree preferred.
Must be a registered Medical Technologist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists or similar registration/certification.
Must have a minimum of five (5) years supervisory experience in an acute care setting. Prefer experience in a trauma facility.
Must meet CLIA standards for high complexity testing.
Must have a good working knowledge of billing issues relevant to third party payors as well as regulatory issues within the states of Nebraska, Iowa and South Dakota.
Must maintain a specialty certification in area of responsibility or related discipline.
