Martensdale-St. Marys Community School District Substitute Teacher in Martensdale, Iowa

SUBSTITUTE TEACHER(may include Elementary or High School Regular Education)

Position Purpose

Under the general supervision of the building principal, the substitute teacher will document student progress/activities/outcomes for the regular classroom teacher. The ability to address educational needs of individual students by creating a flexible, safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, staff and administration regarding the daily progress, expectations and goals.

Essential Performance Responsibilities

  • Administers district and state approved curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
  • Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
  • Executeslesson plans and instructional materials and translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.
  • Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keepingand reporting for all student activities to the regular classroom teacher.
  • Ensures that student conduct conforms to the school's standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
  • Supervises students in activities that take place out of the classroom during the school day, including activities involving school transportation, when necessary.
  • Performs other related tasks as assigned by the principal and other central office administrators as designated by the superintendent.
  • Assists in the supervision of students in the classroom and other areas of the school facility. This may include bus arrival/dismissal, lunch and/or recess, school related activities or field trips during contracted hours, and emergency drills/situations.
  • Works with individuals or a group of students in the daily routine of the classroom under the regular classroom teacher's direction. This may include assisting the teacher with classroom management and/or implementation of behavioral management plan(s); assisting students with daily work, and assessments; assisting students with technology (audio-visual, computer, adaptive educational equipment); and maintaining records for individual students.
  • Keeps teachers/administrator informed of all relevant student-related matters.
  • Maintains working knowledge and use of available technology.
  • Duties and responsibilities as requested by supervisor may vary from time to time.
