Wells Dairy Inc. QA Program Coordinator - South Plant in Le Mars, Iowa


Responsible for maintenance of plant Quality and Food Safety programs. Analyze, compile, and prepare data from programs. Drives SQF, PMO, FDA, and USDA 21CFR and 9CFR policies and programs as related to Food Safety and Food Quality. Ensures ongoing monitoring activities occur as prescribed, and completion of Food Quality and Food Safety program components. Serves as the back up to the QA Compliance Manager.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Utilize and manage the necessary resources and processes across functions to achieve designated performance goals.

  • Supports and maintains a continuous improvement (CI) culture while working in conjunction with QA Leadership to promote and support food quality and food safety programs, including, but not necessarily limited to: Positive Release, Autohold Program, Corrective Action system, Plant Assessments, Document Audits, and Processing Reviews.

  • Coordinate (and develop where necessary) quality activities within the manufacturing processes using established manufacturing control programs (e.g., QMS) as well as company policies (QFSEs), food manufacturing GMPs, and relevant food safety regulations.

  • In conjunction with Document Control, ensures food quality and food safety programs, processes, and documentation are current and meet and/or exceed all regulatory and customer requirements.

  • Serves as a driver of the plant SQF plan and SQF compliance activities. Drives corrective actions and sustainability in light of SQF and other regulatory / compliance programs and initiatives. Serves in a similar capacity for other food safety or food quality audits.

  • Communicate openly and effectively with all entities on a regular, frequent basis to ensure awareness and understanding of important information impacting the individual, team or operation.

  • Follow and enforce required SQF and safety policies. Foster peer to peer accountability in the areas of safety, quality, delivery and cost.

  • Maintains and manages the Corrective Action System, Plant Assessment Program, and Document Audit Program.

  • Bachelors degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Business Administration, Education, Technology, or Communications. Equivalent (year for year) experience with food or nutritional products manufacturing / retail firms in manufacturing or quality programs may be substituted for degree level.
  • Minimum 3 years demonstrated experience in a in a medical product, food or nutritional product manufacturing or retail setting. Previous experience in an FDA / USDA regulated industry.
  • HACCP and SQF certification required. If not acquired prior to accepting the position, must attain HACCP and SQF certification within one year in role.
  • Familiarity with food / nutritional product legislation Manufacturing Equipment Qualification, Project Management, Pasteurized Milk Ordinance (PMO), and (FDA & USDA 21CFR & 9 CFR or even 9 CFR) - a plus.
