Corteva Agriscience Sr Research Associate - Genetic Resistance in Johnston, Iowa

Description

The Senior Research Associate will be joining a team focused on disease resistance gene discovery and characterization, as well as host-pathogen interactions in major crops. The candidates will conduct novel research activities to facilitate the identification of plant resistance genes and cognate fungal effectors. This is a hands-on role, which requires the candidate to manage projects independently, and coordinate with others to accomplish the team’s objectives. We are looking for a highly-motivated individual with experience in molecular biology, genetics, and cell biology experiments, strong communication and interpersonal skills, and excellent problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, optimize protocols for resistance gene and cognate effector discovery. Explore creative scientific solutions and investigate feasibility of scientific principles and concepts

  • Support the objectives of the group through independently managing research projects as well as collaborating with other group members

  • Communicate with relevant parties on project progress and recommendations on future work

  • Summarize plans and progress in written reports and oral presentations

  • Comply with all on-site safety, environmental, and stewardship regulations

Qualifications

Requirements

  • A master degree in plant biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, molecular pathology, genetics, or a related discipline, as well as research experience. Experience in molecular plant pathology is a plus.

  • A self-motivator is required, with ability to work independently, prioritize and manage a variety of tasks, and shift priorities rapidly.

  • A team player who can work well with others and support the goals of the group is required

  • Strong scientific background with problem-solving skills

  • Detail-oriented, excellent organizational and communication skills (oral and written)

  • Significant plant molecular biology techniques

  • Experience with molecular pathology is a plus
