Skilled Maintenance HVAC

Facility Support (Dietary, Maintenance, Drivers) Johnston, Iowa



In this Skilled Maintenance position, you will perform skilled work assignments through the work order system, primarily related to HVAC install, maintenance, and repair. You will also monitor facility plumbing, electrical, and automation controls for the building. Successful completion of this job is an integral part in ensuring that facilities are maintained to support the many families and children served. Schedule

  • Typically standard business hours Monday-Friday with rotating on-call weekends.

    What You'll Do HVAC Maintenance

  • Perform or monitor preventative maintenance and repair to mechanical systems and controls of all building and site systems. Systems include HVAC, electrical, programmable lighting, photovoltaic systems, security system, fire protection, plumbing, PA/Intercom system, telephones, and pool operations

  • Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of equipment being serviced and employ service procedures and techniques

  • Follow inspection and service procedures outlined in preventative maintenance programs and complete paperwork in a timely manner

  • Possess knowledge of safe and efficient operation of all equipment, power and hand tools, and safety procedures

  • Assist in technical training and upgrading of skills of less qualified personnel

  • Promote and contribute toward overall effort in maintaining a high standard in the operation and appearance of the buildings and grounds as well as positive staff relations through daily work practices

    What You'll Need

  • High school diploma or equivalent educational certification

  • Universal CFC certification and CPO certification

  • A minimum of five years experience including working knowledge of building HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems and building automation controls

  • Must be an authorized driver according to ChildServe policy

  • Basic computer skills necessary to operate computer systems for applicable equipment as well as for day to day work and communications

  • Ability to maintain recordkeeping systems and procedures

  • Knowledge of mandatory safety system testing and documentation requirements (fire protection systems, elevator, etc.)

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to bend, stand, and walk during most of the day. Stoops, lifts and moves arms during work hours. Pushes carts and lifts medium weight buckets and containers (50-75 pounds). Exposure to both heat and cold. Frequent contact with water and strong cleaning agents and disinfectants. Must be able to pass post-offer pre-employment health screening at commencement of employment and thereafter as regulated. Must be able to operate vehicle and other machinery or equipment.
