Corteva Agriscience Senior Research Associate - Mass Spectrometry (BS/MS) in Johnston, Iowa
Corteva Agriscience Input Traits Discovery Group has an exciting opportunity for a highly-motivated Sr. Mass Spectrometry Associate to join the Mass Spectrometry and Proteomics team located in Johnston, Iowa.
The main responsibilities will be identifying and characterizing proteins using mass-spectrometry in support of our novel protein discovery efforts. The primary analytical technology is nanoLC/MS/MS and LC-MS/MS using Orbitrap and Q-Trap instruments. This position is highly suited to someone who has demonstrable hands-on experience with protein identification and quantification using LC/MS, and is excited about applying their skills towards discovering novel traits of agricultural interest. The ideal candidate will be someone who is able to work independently and solve problems of scientific or technical nature. Providing input to project plans, refining assays and maintaining analytical rigor will be part of the daily work. The position allows for learning and development in many areas of trait discovery.

Operate various mass spectrometry instruments.
Prepare samples for mass spectrometry analysis.
Analyze mass spectrometry data and write/present reports.
Participate in protocol development/improvement for existing and new applications.
Perform facility and equipment duties such as periodic maintenance and preventive maintenance.
MS in biochemistry, analytical chemistry, biology or related fields with 4+ years of work experience or BS degree with 10+ years of work experience.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills in both written and oral, and an ability to interact with various groups and levels.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Experience in sample extraction and preparation of samples of biological, synthetic and organic origins.
Team-oriented mindset with critical thinking skills, self-direction, and self-motivation.
Effective time management and organizational skills.
Two years or more of first-hand experience in the operation of current mass spectrometers; experience with Thermo and/or AB Sciex systems preferred.
Experience in acquisition and analysis of lc/msms data.
A good understanding of mass spectrometry and protein biochemistry is desired.
Experience in various mass-spec related computational methods, software and analysis is preferred.
Basic knowledge of common computer programs, such as Microsoft Office. Experience using proteomics software is a plus.
