This Research Assistant will be a key member of an aggressive soybean trait integration team within a growth chamber facility to develop improved soybean and wheat varieties. The selected candidate will be responsible for performing a variety of duties associated with plant management activities using a range of procedures and protocols.
The duties/responsibilities for this Research Assistant position will include:
Performing day to daygreenhouse/growth chamber activities including planting, pollinating,tissue sampling, pest/disease scouting, harvesting, data collection,database management, process improvement experimentation, facilitycleanliness and maintaining safety standards.
The Research Assistant willalso assist with training of full time staff and temporary labor asrequired
This position will require working rotational weekends and holidays and extended hours during peak periods. Continuous training will be required in order to obtain new skills needed for utilization of new technologies and to stay current with changes in the industry.
The following arerequired:
High school diploma and 2+years of work experience in greenhouse/growth chamber environments, ORAssociate's/Bachelor's degree in Horticulture, Agronomy, Biology, or relatedfield of study
Valid driver’s license
Ability to communicate clearly,display a positive attitude and work efficiently and effectively withothers in a team environment
Ability to prioritize work onmultiple projects under direction from project leads and to delegateresponsibilities to other’s as needed to meet deadlines
Ability to train otheremployees, be self-motivated and able to work well with others andindependently with minimal supervision
Ability to work aroundsoybeans, wheat, pollen and dust for long periods of time. Mustfollow safety requirements as outlined for all processes
Attention to detail and abilityto stay focused while performing repetitive tasks
The following arepreferred:
Experience with growthchambers, greenhouses, and plant care
Computer skills including:Microsoft Office programs, Access, LIMS and iOS devices
Experience with plantpropagation in a controlled environment setting
Plant pollination experience
