The Global Plant Pathology group at Corteva Agriscience is an integrated and critical support team to our product development efforts, impacting the success of world-wide seed movement and commercial business. This Plant Pathology Scientist position will be a key contributor to a research team that is a foundational plant disease center of excellence for Corteva Agriscience, including but not limited to the following areas: disease characterization and phenotyping, plant disease diagnostics, inoculum production, phytosanitary support, and research efforts to improve crop disease monitoring and control efforts.

We are looking for a highly motivated scientist with a strong background in plant pathology. Other supporting disciplines in plant sciences such as plant breeding, genetics, molecular biology, statistics, integrated pest management (IPM), and agronomy would also bring beneficial knowledge to the position. A working knowledge of the biology of important disease traits in field crop species will be essential. As part of the Global Plant Pathology team as well as part of cross-functional teams, the successful candidate will contribute to global research and development for Corteva Agriscience . Primary responsibilities include Corteva’s ongoing execution of the NSHS (National Seed Health System) phytosanitary inspection program, IPM enhancement, and global monitoring of diseases of phytosanitary significance. Furthermore, the candidate will conduct research and process improvements related to key quarantine pathogens.

Responsibilities include:

  • Contribute to scientific leadership across the Global Plant Pathology group and also to a large and complex global organization.

  • Serve as the key contact for the North America phytosanitary field inspection process.

  • Responsible for the phytosanitary training and auditing process.

  • Conduct research on management, monitoring, and containment of key quarantine pathogens.

  • Integration of new technologies into the phytosanitary processes.

  • Assure phytosanitary compliance within the organization and develop process improvements for greater efficiency.

  • Develop new or enhance existing training materials, and maintain Quality Management System (QMS) documentation for phytosanitary processes.

  • Assist the Field Pathology Team with business support.

Qualifications

Required Skills/Experience:

  • PhD highly preferred with a minimum of an MS in Plant Pathology (or closely related plant science major) with 2-3 yrs demonstrated experience in working with crop or seed pathogens.

  • Experience in molecular diagnostics and characterization of pathogens.

  • Familiarity with seed health testing methods and requirements.

  • Familiarity with Pest Risk Assessments.

  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of cross-functional, complex teams and deliver results.

  • Excellent leadership and communications skills,

  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally with periods of high frequency.

  • Fluency in written and spoken English.

Desired Skills/Experience:

  • 3-5 years’ experience in working with pathogens in field crops.

  • Experience with phytosanitary systems and regulations.

  • Experience in initiating experiments, experimental design, executing on experiment plans and summarizing results.

  • Fluency in Spanish preferred but not required.
