Corteva Agriscience’s Open Innovation team is seeking a dynamic self-starter to join the group as an Open Innovation Manager. This exciting career opportunity is for an individual with a passion for scientific collaboration and cutting-edge innovation to solve research challenges in agriculture through the application of biotechnology, crop genetics, crop protection, predictive agriculture, and digital solutions. The Open Innovation manager will support research collaborations between Corteva scientists and global innovators from the formulation of research challenges to project evaluation, selection, and management.
The Open Innovation Manager role requires demonstrated interpersonal, communication, and project management skills; a strong technical background in scientific research; and experience in cooperation and negotiation. This role includes a significant communications component requiring the ability to create written content for Corteva’s Open Innovation website and social media presence as well as engage in public speaking opportunities both inside and outside the organization. The prospective Open Innovation Manager will interface with Research and Development, Technology Transfer and Licensing, Intellectual Property Legal, and Communications. This is not a people leader role and does not have direct reports.
Participates in the design and implementation of Corteva’s Open Innovation strategy across Corteva’s R&D departments, including: assisting in technology needs assessments; implementing and directing Open Innovation research challenges, identifying and selecting synergistic opportunities
Coordinates and manages inbound innovation leads; facilitates the transfer of successful Open Innovation initiatives into Corteva’s R&D pipeline
Champions Open Innovation inside and outside the organization; participates in prospecting and Open Innovation outreach campaigns
Generates content for Corteva Open Innovation’s website and social media presence
Develops and manages effective outreach campaigns to promote engagement with potential collaborators on Open Innovation research challenges
Collaborates with Technology Transfer and Licensing and Legal stakeholders to support the negotiation of agreement terms and management of contractual obligations, ensuring compliance with relevant agreement terms
Provides functional guidance to resources assigned to various OI projects. This role will require the ability to effectively influence without direct authority.
Manages relationships with key contacts involved in Open Innovation collaborations and maintains a strategic network of internal and external contacts
Maintains sufficient knowledge of technology developments and events inside and outside the company to serve as spokesperson for Open Innovation
Represents Corteva with existing and potential partners; assuring credibility and reliability of Corteva as preferred collaborator
What expertise have you grown? What do you bring to the table?
PhD preferred; master’s degree or bachelor’s degree with relevant experience required
5-7+ years of experience in any combination of the following: research and development, alliance management, communications, project management, and business development. Research and development experience highly desired.
Broad understanding of diverse technology domains (e.g., biotechnology, plant breeding, plant physiology, genomics, biochemistry, chemistry, predictive modeling and/or molecular biology)
Ability to develop and lead a scientific research plan
Passion for innovative approaches to discovery
Conversant on major trends in the agriculture and life sciences industries
Strong public speaking skills
Effective writing skills for diverse audiences
Ability to guide communications strategy
Experience managing website content and social media desirable but not required
Teamwork and Leadership
Builds and values strong relationships within and across teams
Ability to drive toward results within cross-functional teams representing diverse perspectives
Management success in a science-based R&D organization
Ability to effectively influence without authority
Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize based on urgency, and execute detailed action plans
