In a Nutshell:As a member of the maintenance team, you are responsible for ensuring that all facilities at ChildServe are properly maintained and preventative maintenance is performed per guidelines of HVAC systems, lawn equipment, company vehicles, and pool care equipment. You will also provide year-round grounds care at the CHC campus. Successful completion of this job will result in attractive, safe, and well-maintained facilities to support the many children and families that we serve. About Our Facilities:ChildServe provides premier services within several uniquely equipped facilities and homes throughout the Polk County area, as well as Iowa City. Maintenance plays an integral part in maintaining the quality and safety of these many locations. Who We Are:We serve over 4,600 children each year through specialized clinical, home, and community-based services. We are experts in pediatric rehabilitation and care for children and young adults who have a wide variety of developmental delays, disabilities, acquired injuries, and other special healthcare needs.Schedule:Typically standard business hours Monday-Friday with rotating on-call weekends.What You'll Do:Maintenance

  • Responds to all maintenance calls during his/her shift

  • Knowledgeable in the proper procedures for emergency generator start-up due to a power outage

  • Ability to follow local and state building codes

  • Ability to read and understand blueprints and schematics

  • Drives ChildServe maintenance vehicles

  • Receives and stores equipment and supplies

  • Repairs, replaces and tests electrical circuits, equipment and appliances as needed, but do not proceed beyond the limits of training, expertise, and experience

  • Performs preventative and repairs to ChildServe equipment such as heat pumps, air handlers, ChildServe vehicles, plumbing, etc.

  • Ability to do dry wall patching and painting as needed

  • Ensures the safe operation of the swimming pool filter systems and equipment

  • Changes light bulbs, moves office equipment, stores holiday decorations, maintains playground equipment

Grounds

  • Regularly mows and trims all lawn areas

  • Demonstrates proficiency in use of lawn care equipment and uses equipment safely

  • Seeds bare spot, water lawns and shrubs, applies fertilizer as requested

  • Keeps ground and parking areas free of refuse, leaves, and limbs

  • Helps in snow removal, sands and salts sidewalks and parking areas when icy

What You'll Need:Education: Must be able to read instructions and comprehend verbal instructions. High school/equivalent or trade school education required.Experience: One-year experience in maintenance field with background in plumbing and wiring preferredSpecific Skills/Knowledge: Must carry or be willing to obtain a valid D-3 or CDL driver's license in order to operate ChildServe vehicles
