Description

Summary

Responsible for the completion of all preventative maintenance, special projects and daily maintenance needs of the manure drying system.

Key Responsibilities

  • Observe and complete the daily cleaning of manure belt and manure drying equipment
  • Perform the completion and documentation of all preventative maintenance, special projects and daily maintenance of the manure drying system in a timely fashion
  • Develop and upgrade preventative maintenance programs for manure drying system Perform manure removal/drying system functions
  • Inspect conveyors, motors, or belts; check fluid levels, etc. or complete other preventative actions
  • Set up and operate sonic welding equipment to weld, repair, join or fabricate parts by working with sketches or verbal orders
  • Bearing removal by means of press or heat
  • Follow all company safety policies and practices
  • Safely operate equipment, power tools, hand tools, welding and cutting tools and manlifts as required
  • Demonstrate an understanding of laying hen husbandry including abnormal traits
  • Comprehend and operate the automated environmental computer
  • Perform tasks associated with moving birds in and out of houses to include handling bird moving equipment and cleaning with pneumatic or pressurized water
  • Monitor bird service activities, i.e. birds in/out, with an emphasis on animal welfare
  • Comprehend and execute the manure management program
  • Obtain licensing for job specific duties
  • Perform pre-operation inspection on all vehicles and equipment (complete documentation as required)
  • Participate in physical inventory counts
  • Follow all Daybreak procedures for sampling and submitting specimens
  • Communicate daily with Compost Department
  • Request needed safety supplies, material, parts, etc. to designated department procurement stakeholder
  • Prepared for DNR or customer audits at all times with proper procedures and documents for all activities
  • Enter data into DBF spreadsheets
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education and/or Experience

  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalency preferred
  • 1 year experience in production agricultural environment is preferred
  • 1 year of experience in Windows based systems and programs required (including MS Office)
  • 1 year of experience in a maintenance role
  • Understanding of computer controlled electrical and mechanical devices is required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Understand and operate environmental controls, alarm systems, backup power, and other technology
  • Ability to track and document all activities with correct forms and paperwork
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical drives, gearboxes and general movement of equipment and materials
  • Strong knowledge of three phase 480/240 VAC motors and circuits; 110 VAC control circuits and motor starters with overload protection
  • High level of mechanical aptitude with plumbing, carpentry, and electrical repairs
  • Skilled in trouble shooting failed equipment
  • Ability to communicate so that others will understand both verbally and in writing
  • Working knowledge of agricultural operations preferred
  • Ability to learn and perform lock-out-tag-out and other safety procedures
  • Ability to collaborate cross-functionally to achieve objectives
  • Detail oriented
  • Ability to interact with individuals from diverse ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds
  • Record of good attendance with a flexible schedule
  • Basic reading, writing, and math skills
  • Positive a titude and ability to work with a team
  • Must be comfortable working in close contact with animals

Physical Demands

Stand and walk constantly; grip, grasp, push, pull, reach, bend, stoop, lift up to 10 pounds frequently; sit, climb, lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.

Work Environment

Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and airborne particles. Temperature varies in relation to the outside temperature. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Proper personal protective equipment will be required during certain working conditions.
