Actalent Water/Waste Water Designer in Des Moines, Iowa


This opportunity is for a 2-year or 4-year degreed Designer that will specialize in working within industrial projects with Plant 3D. The position will be joining the Water/Wastewater Group and can sit out of Sioux Falls or Des Moines.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Assist with projects through preliminary design, detailed design, bidding, and construction phases.

Evaluate and select process equipment, piping materials, and valves for a variety of industrial clients and projects.

Conducting field observation and inspection during the construction phase.

Coordinate with engineers on the production of project deliverables.

Supporting client relationships and business growth.

Working with various disciplines to integrate functional, detailed, and sustainable designs of municipal and industrial water/wastewater into infrastructure

Collaborating with team members, communities, and stakeholders to define and understand project requirements.

Assisting Project Managers in the planning of schedule and scope for current and potential projects


Plant 3D, P&ID, Design, piping, valves, 3D Models, Water systems, Wastewater Systems

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

Proficiency in Autodesk AutoCAD Plant 3D. Creation, implementation, and utilization of P&IDs in preliminary and detailed design phases – specify piping, valves, and equipment for 3D piping design standards (Spec Editor) –build and populate reports from P&IDs & 3D models (Plant Report Creator).

Experience with creating, reading, and understanding P&IDs.

Design mechanical and process piping, equipment for state-of-the-art water and wastewater treatment systems.

Producing and reviewing project documentation (plant piping & equipment layouts, PFDs, P&IDs, specifications, reports, and equipment data sheets).

Prior knowledge and application of Federal, state, local, and industrial codes for the design of water/wastewater systems is preferred

Understanding of the following systems: chemical storage and feed, solids handling, blowers, pumps, and motor sizing.
