Overview

Kemin Nutrisurance is seeking a Scientist to join their Research & Development team! As a Process Chemist, you'll enjoy the experience of growing your skills while creating an additional level of expertise in the pet food industry. Responsible for being the technical lead on multiple cross functional teams, performing literature reviews and incorporating into research strategies, this role provides the opportunity for you to create your own way in flavor and reaction chemistry. This position identifies internal and external opportunities to obtain new intellectual property and evaluating external intellectual property.

Responsibilities

  • Independently lead multiple R&D projects.

  • Manage and mentor direct reports to reach goals.

  • Act as technical lead on multiple cross functional teams.

  • Review and approve SOPs, research protocols, and research methods.

  • Responsible for performing literature reviews and incorporating into research strategies.

  • Identify internal and external opportunities to obtain new intellectual property and evaluating external intellectual property and freedom to operate issues.

  • Identify and participate in external research collaborations.

  • Actively identify and lead research areas that could lead to new product development or process improvement, with minimal supervision.

  • Maintain accurate and detailed electronic laboratory notebooks.

  • Independently perform advanced data analysis and review others data.

  • Prepare and present research reports in multiple formats for both internal and external audiences.

  • Generate scientific publications used for internal or external purposes.

  • Adhere to laboratory standard operating procedures, documentation and guidelines.

  • Troubleshoot issues with laboratory equipment and instrumentation.

  • Participate in strategic planning and customer meetings.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Food Science or related studies along with relevant experience in Maillard Reaction Flavors:

  • PhD with significant independent research projects

  • Master’s Degree with 3+ years

  • Bachelor’s Degree with 5+ years of relevant experience

  • Additional consideration will be given to candidates with a background in Retort Processing

  • Must have a solid understanding and adherence to the Servant Leadership philosophy

  • Detail oriented, organized, prioritization skills, and motivated by accomplishment.

  • Must be able to work independently and have the ability to work in a fast-paced multidisciplinary environment

  • Ability to interact well with others in a team environment.

  • Strong experimental design and problem solving skills.

  • Good written and oral communication skills, suitable for external presentations.

  • Ability to understand and perform advanced statistical analysis

  • Excellent Scientific skills in experiment design and data collection.

  • Scientific curiosity and innovation.

  • Ability to apply knowledge quickly to projects.
