GENERAL SUMMARY :

  • Serves as an internal consultant to management,staff, and providers in the areas of process improvement, organizationaldevelopment, change management, performance monitoring, and statisticalanalysis.

  • Provides expertise in successfully applyingprocess improvement methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma, Workout, PDSA/PDCA, ChangeAcceleration Process, etc.

  • Serves as a project facilitator/manager andtechnical resource for teams working on major, complex performance improvementefforts.

  • Creates and uses standard performanceimprovement tools and training to continually educate management, staff andproviders in performance improvement.

  • Focuses on better healthcare value and quality,including the improvement of clinical outcomes, patient experience, safety,costs, revenue, productivity, efficiency, employee and provider satisfaction,and process reliability.

ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS:

  • Serves as a project facilitator/manager andtechnical resource for teams working on major, complex performance improvementefforts, focusing on better healthcare value and quality, to include theimprovement of clinical outcomes, patient experience, safety, costs, revenue,productivity, efficiency, employee and provider satisfaction, and processreliability.

  • Servesas a technical advisor and internal consultant to management, staff, and provider s on the use of performanceimprovement tools and techniques, analytical techniques, and statisticalapplications.

  • Assistsin the establishment of operational performance measurements and the monitoringof trends in key performance indicators to evaluate efficiency, effectiveness,cost, etc., using available information systems data. Uses data from appropriate external sources,including comparative databases.

  • Appliesappropriate change management methods to promote implementation of change. Facilitates organizational change by helpingto prepare personnel to accept and actively participate in new changes, throughcommunication, coaching, and educational workshops.

  • Analyzes assigned areas of operations forpotential improvement opportunities and makes applicable recommendations inconjunction with management, staff and providers for process, system,procedure, and operational changes to improve healthcare value andquality.

  • Provide project status updates, feedback, andappropriate reporting on assigned projects through preparation and delivery ofpresentations and other project tracking systems.

  • Works with Performance Excellence staff andothers to maximize potential improvement efforts and understanding ofopportunities across the organization, as well as to identify, share, andleverage best practices with organizational stakeholders.

  • Provides direction, coordination, mentoring, andcoaching of performance improvement staff as assigned by director.

  • Provide training and mentoring to leaders andstaff on performance improvement methods and tools

MINIMUMKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Education & Licensure:

  • Bachelor’s degree required and Master’spreferred in industrial engineering, health systems engineering, healthcareadministration, organizational development, a health-related profession, or asimilar field of study with a strong analytical base.

  • High level certification (such as Black Belt orMaster Black Belt) from a recognized organization in Lean, Six Sigma, orsimilar improvement methodology.

Experience &Skills:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of process improvementexperience. Experience needs to haveprovided knowledge of complex system analysis, design, and integration, at alevel of complexity that might be associated with integrating processes acrossmultiple organizations.

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience requiredin Lean or Lean Six Sigma deployment in a healthcare environment.

  • Minimum of two (2) years ofmanagement/leadership experience is required, preferably in a healthcareenvironment

  • Analytical skills necessary for the evaluationof systems changes. Skills must includepreparation of detailed reports, analyses and ability to problem-solve,evaluate, plan, and direct process improvement activities for all clinical andnon-clinical departments.

  • Advanced interpersonal skills necessary to buildeffective relationships and to adequately explore complex/sensitive situationswith organizational leaders, department management, line staff, providers, andregulatory agencies when planning and evaluating work flows, policies/ procedures,and systems, as well as the ability to explain, teach, and present the relatedissues to these groups.

  • Experience in managing multiple, concurrent,complex projects.

  • Working knowledge of computer applicationsincluding Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Visio.

  • Experience working with statistical analysissoftware (for example, QI Macros or Minitab) is strongly preferred.
