Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield Financial Analyst - Corporate Accounting in Des Moines, Iowa

Job Summary

What’s the role?As the Financial Analyst within Corporate Accounting, you’ll contribute to the achievement of corporate and team objectives by utilizing technology and strong working relationships with other teams, as well as other team members, to generate efficient processing and accurate reporting of financial information. This position has a high emphasis on analyzing financial and other business data through the use of data analysis tools (i.e. Business Objects, Microsoft Power Pivot, advanced Excel, Power BI, etc), and assisting leadership in achieving strategic financial plan goals and objectives. You’ll prepare and analyze journal entries for assigned areas and reconcile account balances, as well as assist with the design, planning, implementation and monitoring of the financial performance of the organization.

Minimum Qualifications Required (all must be met to be considered)

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting or related field or direct and applicable work experience

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in Accounting, Finance, Banking, Insurance or Securities role

  • Experience in a role analyzing and interpreting financial data (Tools such as Business Objects, Microsoft Power Pivot, advanced Excel, Power BI, etc)

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships of collaboration and trust; experience working with and actively protecting confidential information and data

  • ·Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and meet time lines and accuracy guidelines

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, expressing complex concepts clearly and concisely

  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively on teams, maintaining positive relationships with customers

  • Strong technical skills, with the ability to learn new systems quickly

  • Strong mathematical, analytical, time management and problem solving skills

  • Ability to perform , document and guide others through a series of related steps

  • Ability to analyze and interpret financial data to produce accurate reports

  • Strong computer aptitude to include Excel, process mapping and data entry

  • Understanding of principles of insurance

Hiring Specifications Preferred

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

  • Audit experience

Job Accountabilities

a. Prepare journal entries related to assigned functional responsibilities and reconcile account balances to supporting documentation. Prepare account analyses, accrual calculations and other related accounting documents/schedules. Demonstrate the ability to work independently and make informed decisions.b. Research and prepare variance analysis, identify variances from expected results and provide thorough and adequate explanation or resolution to ensure accurate financial statements. Investigate exceptions/anomalies identified by technology or system reports, identify issues and resolve, and make informed decisions.c. Respond to audit requests and/or internal/external inquiries by researching financial data and corresponding with contacts to correctly account for and report financial information.d. Identify and drive implementation of process improvements, including the automation of processes.e. Participate on projects as assigned within agreed upon deadlines and according to project goals.f. Use technology to efficiently process financial transactions and generate accurate financial information in accordance with basic accounting principles. Demonstrate knowledge of accounting rules and regulations and apply concepts in daily processes.g. Other duties as assigned.
