Lutheran Services in Iowa (LSI) currently seeks a Education Coordinator to oversee the Immigrant Education program within our Refugee and Immigrant Services department in Des Moines.


The Education Coordinator manages the Immigrant Education Program. This program offers language and cultural training to newly-arrived immigrants in Polk County and Central Iowa, including English language instruction, employment-readiness training, Citizenship preparation, and community-based English classes. The Education Coordinator serves as liaison with refugee resettlement agencies and other community organizations, and manages specialized English language classes at multiple sites. The Coordinator hires and trains instructors for the program, ensures compliance with contracts, and adjusts programming to meet the needs of the changing immigrant population.


Required : Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field and 2 years of experience in teaching or management of ESL, workforce development or adult education programs.

Preferred : Master's in Education, TESOL, or a related field and 2 years of experience in management of ESL, workforce development or adult education programs for refugee and/or immigrant populations.

This position requires a valid driver's license, auto insurance, a good driving record and the ability to pass an extensive background check including checks of the Dependent Adult and Child Abuse registries, Sex Offender registry and a criminal history check.
