We are seeking a Director of Risk & Compliance, BSA & OFAC Officer, to be responsible for leading and administering all aspects of Dwolla's fraud risk management and compliance programs, including its BSA/AML/OFAC program. This individual must be a skilled and knowledgeable leader who can manage, train and inspire Dwolla’s high-performing Risk & Compliance team. The Director of Risk & Compliance will be responsible for upgrading and enhancing Dwolla’s Risk & Compliance policies and procedures by partnering with Legal, Finance, and InfoSec to expand existing compliance programs. This role will also work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to develop new, compliant products and business models, ensuring that business units receive clear guidance that optimize the customer experience. In addition to overseeing the Compliance function, this role will continuously develop improvements to Dwolla’s fraud management program and other risk management tools, and oversee the development of new risk management programs.


  • Manage Dwolla’s BSA/AML/OFAC compliance functions, directly supervising the Risk & Compliance team of high-performing analysts and managers.

  • Update and maintain all Risk & Compliance procedures, processes, and associated tracking and reporting systems. Monitor compliance with such policies and advise on their enforcement.

  • Perform comprehensive risk assessments and policy analysis to determine BSA/AML and other risk exposures, collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop mitigating controls and monitoring strategies.

  • Conduct secondary reviews and act as the escalation point for all due diligence and investigation reviews, providing guidance and feedback to Risk & Compliance team members.

  • Supervise the Suspicious Activity Report process and the enforcement of related policies.

  • Manage external BSA/AML audit process and lead implementation of recommended program enhancements.

  • Manage and upgrade Dwolla’s fraud risk program to minimize the company’s loss exposure, collaborating with the Finance, Customer Success, and Sales teams to develop best practices.

  • Document and report investigation findings derived through manual and automated processes.

  • Research and implement fraud monitoring and reporting tools used by Risk & Compliance to ensure effective fraud detection and reporting.

  • Assist with customer-facing activities as risk and/or compliance issues are escalated by the Customer Success team.

  • Partner effectively with cross-functional teams, including Product and Engineering, to develop technical, operational, and administrative controls to ensure compliance.

  • Act as Dwolla’s main point of contact for Risk & Compliance issues with its financial institution partners.

  • Advise the Leadership team and Board of Directors on emerging or escalated Risk & Compliance issues.

  • Oversee BSA/AML/OFAC training programs for all employees and the Board of Directors.


  • Minimum of 7+ years of experience in a senior role in a BSA/AML compliance program or equivalent experience.

  • Minimum of 5+ years of personnel management experience.

  • Prior experience as a BSA Officer preferred.

  • CAMS certification.

  • Expert knowledge of the Bank Secrecy Act, USA PATRIOT Act, FinCEN guidance, OFAC requirements and Suspicious Activity Reporting requirements.

  • Prior work experience in the financial services industry.

  • Strong leadership, interpersonal and communication skills. Communicates clear and specific expectations. Ability to set direction and inspire.

  • Highly organized and able to adapt quickly to changing priorities.

  • Strong critical thinking skills. Ability to define complex problems, draw valid conclusions through research, and define workable solutions.

  • CFE credential a plus.
