Wellmark - Des Moines Director of Product & Client Solutions in Des Moines, Iowa

In this role, you will have the opportunity to lead a team of talented team leaders in collaborative efforts across Wellmark to deliver best in class product solutions that meet the needs of our clients. You will have overall accountability for the product lifecycle including development, implementation, and client consulting and will provide leadership, direction and oversight of a product strategy that positions Wellmark as the leader in health, wellness and ancillary products and services. Leveraging strong corporate negotiation skills, you will foster cross-functional alignment within the department and across key stakeholders - from development through implementation to consultation and back into development - with a focus on delivering client-oriented solutions. Your voice will be heard, and you will see the impact of your decisions as they positively impact our clients. You will lead, mentor, and develop a team of insightful, forward-thinking and data driven product and consulting leaders – you will foster proactive, consultative solutioning to innovate and drive cost-effective and growth-oriented results.

  • Bachelor's degree or direct and applicable work experience; Master’s degree preferred.

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in product lifecycle management, or related role, with demonstrated financial acumen, including an understanding of underwriting, financial metrics, etc.

  • Prior experience should reflect the ability to build, implement, and drive forward product strategies that achieve bottom-line results.

  • Health care or related industry experience, including knowledge of products, benefit design, etc.

  • Strong leadership experience of leading other leaders, including experience in coaching, developing, and maximizing the talents of both leaders and team members and effectively leading teams through change.

  • Highly effective analytical skills, business intuition, and demonstrated proficiency distilling large amounts of information into the most relevant insights.

  • Strong verbal and written communications skills with the ability to successfully share insights or recommendations with stakeholders, including senior leadership. Ability to develop and facilitate presentations.

  • Outstanding consultation skills with the ability to influence, solicit cooperation and action from others and the ability to collaborate with business and technical leaders to educate and gain understanding and buy-in.

  • Knowledge of current and future customer needs, developed through active client engagement and consulting, including the ability to problem solve and translate needs into competitive products and services.

  • Ability to develop and deliver programs/projects from concept through implementation. Skilled at ensuring quality, time, and stakeholder expectations are met while maintaining alignment with strategy.

  • Ability to measure and evaluate work processes, services, and products in order to ensure alignment with strategic goals. Ability to re-design or improve processes as needed.

  • Some travel required.

  • Lead in the execution of a product strategy and ensure alignment to health, wellness, and ancillary products, to enable leverage and differentiation in the market while providing a total benefit solution for the life of a member.

  • Drive collaboration and engagement across matrixed workgroups and teams to lead and coordinate large complex projects to deliver our product roadmaps from development, implementation and client consulting and support.

  • Exercise direction and leadership for product teams accountable for developing, pricing, naming, creating market position and packaging of Wellmark’s products that, in turn, support Wellmark and divisional strategy and goals.

  • Drive and develop the analytical and financial frameworks to identify practical and meaningful business improvement opportunities across our product and solutions portfolio and functional capabilities.

  • Provide day-to-day leadership of financial and human resources, primarily focusing on employee and leader coaching, development, performance improvement, coordination and budgeting for multiple staff, and department(s) specific functions/services.

  • Leverage insights, data, and competitive intelligence to track and monitor product performance. Facilitate the identification and

  • connection to the portfolio of solutions in our product catalogue and work to drive to the solutions on our future roadmap.

  • Serve as a key liaison and customer interface for all Wellmark products. Build strong relationships and closely partner and consult with Sales, Client Solutions, Member Experience, Communications, and other internal stakeholders in order to drive continued alignment of development and implementation as well as to ensure successful activation for and with sales.

  • Ensure compliance with our commercial and government lines of business by understanding rules and regulations impacting our business at the state and federal level. Facilitate the necessary connections to the legal and regulatory communication process as well as the marketing process to support sales efforts.

  • Partner and execute in vendor relationships. Accountable for managing vendor relationships and ensuring alignment with Wellmark’s product strategy and enhancing the customer experience.

  • Maintain awareness of industry trends, best practices, and evolving technologies to ensure cost-effective solutioning while enabling continuous innovation and championing the for the member experience.
