Within the department of Engineering Operations, there are two facets components in Signals and Communications: Construction and Maintenance. Signalman and Signal Maintainers work mostly alone on a specified assigned territory by the Supervisors where the job can occasionally be physically demanding. Signalman and Signal Maintainers are primarily responsible for performing Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) regulatory test and inspection of the signals systems. This position will also install, repair and maintain various equipment such as: signals, lights, switch machines, electrical switch locks, switch circuit controllers, as well as crossing warning devices.POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:General duties include cable locates, painting and housekeeping of signal housings and equipment; climb and troubleshoot signal structures and make electrical connections;The role of Signal Maintainer is an important link between ensuring compliance to FRA regulations and customer satisfaction while achieving the safest most efficient railroad operations;Activities by instruction and supervision of crew foreman;Work Safe PracticesComply with Company and Regulatory Rules and PoliciesDigging, cable repair, housing keeping, assembly of signal equipment, wiring of signal equipment, pole line workRepair or replace damaged equipmentLimited travel is requiredTest and verify correct operation of SandC systems and equipmentPerform preventive maintenance on all SandC apparatusMake inspections and tests as required on each deviceReport problems; failures or unsafe conditionsPlan his/her own work and co-ordinate it with the work of othersEnsure there is enough material on hand to permit work or repairs to be completed without undue delayOnly make authorized corrections and modificationsPOSITION REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must be able to work outdoor and at times in remote locations and adverse weather condition;Work experience with heavy equipment such as backhoe, trencher would be an asset;Must have pervious working knowledge of signaling systems and railroad signalman qualification;Must have a valid driver's license.WHAT CP HAS TO OFFER:Flexible and competitive benefits packageCompletive company pension planAnnual Fitness SubsidyMedical Requirements:CP is committed to the safety and health of its employees and the general public.
