Duties & Responsibilities: (Essential Functions of Position, Major Responsibilities, Summary of Key Duties, Special Assignments, Relationships) Basic Function: Assist with planning, organizing, and direction of the food service program in a school building cafeteria/kitchen under the direction of the Food & Nutrition Services Supervisor in accordance with the objectives and policies established by the Food and Nutrition Services Department.

  • Orders food, supplies, and small equipment for operation. Inventories, food, and supplies. Purchases special diet food items.

  • Maintains proper storage conditions.

  • Ensures adherence to proper safety and sanitation principles.

  • Assists Food and Nutrition Services Supervisor with menu planning, utilizing leftovers and merchandising.

  • Control food and supply costs through menus, inventory, production schedules, waste reduction, storage, cost data, etc.

  • Completes and maintains Food Production Records as required by the Supervisor of Food Service, and in compliance with federal standards.

  • Ensures use of standardized recipes. Monitors meal compliance with menu, Federal meal components and required portion sizes.

  • Promotes good public relations with students, faculty, staff, and parents.

    Personnel:

  • Assists with scheduling and monitoring labor based on production needs. Recommends labor changes for improved efficiency to Food and Nutrition Services Specialist/Supervisor. Delegates/assigns duties to staff as needed. Documents employee performance including probationary and annual evaluations as well as progressive counseling. Assist in guiding, training, and instructing staff. Constructively influence morale and provide recognition when deserved. Monitor and enforce school district and department policies and procedures. Provides instruction, direction, and support for satellite food service operations. Prepare and submit food service employee payroll.

  • Ensures delivery of high-quality food and superior customer service. Applies merchandising and marketing techniques to increase department sales.

  • Inspect equipment periodically. Assists with equipment inspection and submission of maintenance requests.

  • Assists in making the school food service program an integral part of the educational program.

  • Organizes district catering and commercial pizza catering for schools. Catering - schedule, set up, preparation, coordination, and staff.

  • Uses Food and Nutrition software to assist in management of the operation. Manufactures all bakery items through software.

  • Assist with the summer food service program and coordinate end of school year donations.

  • Assist with planning and supervision of auxiliary programs.

  • Evaluate food production and meal delivery systems.

  • Maintain, analyze and interpret data for operational analysis and reporting.

  • Performs other duties as may be assigned.

    Special Qualification Desired:(Personal Qualities, Education, Skills Needed, Experience, Etc.)

  • Associates Degree with coursework in nutrition, hotel/restaurant management, culinary arts or related area desired.

  • Advanced training in food production, food preparation, nutrition, sanitation & safety is preferred.

  • ServSafe Certification required and School Nutrition Association Level 3 certification desired.
