Lincoln Journal Star Education Reporter in Davenport, Iowa

Description

Position at Quad-City Times

The Quad-City Times is seeking an experienced reporter to cover education, from preschool to Ph.D.

As the top news provider in a two-state market of 350,000, the Quad-City Times coverage area includes six municipal school districts, religious and private schools, a community college system, and public and private colleges. This provides ample opportunities for hard news on topics such as funding, special education and diversity, as well as compelling features and enterprise storytelling. We’re looking for someone who can quickly flip a school board meeting story on deadline as well as produce insightful, analytical pieces or Sunday features.

We emphasize deep reporting and devote resources accordingly. Every reporter in the newsroom contributes to multiple big news projects a year, and we reserve four pages in our Sunday editions to a single important story every week. The Quad-City Times strives to be first on breaking news, and reporters are expected to be savvy social media users and speedy writers.

The best candidates will have previous experience covering education, or be able to demonstrate thorough and thoughtful reporting on a similar beat. Please submit at least five clips with a cover letter and resume.

The Quad-Cities is a scenic and historic area on the Mississippi River that’s a magnet for national newsmakers, especially in presidential election years. The community offers big-city amenities at an affordable cost of living.
