Cargill Packaging Operator in Cedar Rapids, Iowa

Job Purpose

The purpose of this position is to manage equipment associated with the CTS flour & extrusion packaging processes. Interacts on a regular basis with the CTS Operator, soy flour customers, warehouse personnel, supervisors and other personnel

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Operate equipment associated with the production process. This may include grain handling, processing and/or, conveyance, packaging equipment.

  • Operate and monitor the process.

  • Ensure accurate information of operating logs, bills of lading, scale weights and transactions are recorded.

  • Assist with the collection and processing of samples Operate a forklift to move packaged products or equipment.

  • Enter confined spaces under proper permit conditions and supervision.

  • Understand and adhere to state and federal Occupational Safety and Health rules and regulations as related to plant safety. Follow all Cargill safety rules and regulations.

  • Inspect buildings, grounds, and equipment utilized by facility; determine immediate and long-range needs for maintenance and repair work. Enter work orders utilizing maintenance computer program (SAP).

  • Troubleshoot minor problems as required.

  • Maintain a safe and sanitary atmosphere with a high regard for food safety and environmental impacts.

  • Attend various mandatory safety and departmental meetings.

  • Communicate in a courteous and positive manner to accomplish duties effectively, working as a team with all involved.

  • Assist other personnel as needed, and will perform other duties essential to the department as requested by the production supervisor.

  • Cargill requires that employees be a minimum of 18 years old

  • Able to read/write English.

  • High School diploma or Equivalent.

  • Ability to work overtime, weekends and holidays with advance notice

  • Basic computer skills.

  • Ability to perform physical job duties which may include bending, lifting up to 50 lbs, kneeling, climbing, crawling, and twisting safely, with or without a reasonable accommodation

  • Must be able to operate machinery.

  • Must be able to work in varied indoor and outdoor conditions with the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), which may include heat, cold, dust, loud noise, etc.

  • Ability to work in elevated areas (4 feet and above)


  • Forklift experience

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft office software, with an emphasis on Excel and Word

  • Experience with SAP or a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)

  • Prior experience in production related work.
