Job Summary

The Logistics team is requesting an Industrial Engineer to join their Cedar Rapids Distribution Center (CRDC) team. This canidate will apply classroom principles in real-world applications throughout the Collins Avionics enterprise warehousing and distribution sites.

This position supports the CRDC Road Map and will provide technical assistance for the CRDC Key Initiatives. The Logistics team is responsible for a myriad of dynamic, fast paced projects where one must balance priorities and multiple tasks simultaneously.Written communication, verbal communications and attention to detail are a critical skill sets. Will interface with both the logistics leadership team members, as well as peer organizations within the enterprise. Works closely with factory personnel and utilizes change management techniques in support of key initiatives and obtainment and improvement upon standard work and business metrics. The position requires strong personal leadership traits and initiative, with an emphasis on project management both at the local and enterprise level. Knowledge of Microsoft Office portfolio and evidence of ACE or Six Sigma application/education is preferred. The projects associated with this position include deployment of standard work across numerous enterprise locations and project management at the implementation phase. In addition to supporting long term initiatives, this individual will provide daily support to existing operations and make recommendations future cost savings and productivity initiatives at the enterprise level. Preferred background for this position would be an undergraduate engineering student; a packaging engineering or logistics background is preferred but not required.

Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for technical problem definition and solution in manufacturing environment. Interfaces with design engineering on incorporating changes to the designs which improve manufacturability.

  • Determines the most efficient sequence of operations and work flow, and establishes methods for maximum utilization of production facilities and personne

  • Conducts studies pertaining to cost control, cost reduction, inventory control through the application of Lean principles.

  • Prepares cost estimates for proposed projects and evaluates cost factors.

  • Perform assignments requiring use and application of standard engineering economics and product development principles and techniques.

  • Assignments usually consist of providing engineering economics support (cost estimates, facilitating achievement of cost requirements/targets) on stand-alone product development efforts.

  • Plan, execute (facilitate) and document engineering economics challenges.

  • Maintain awareness of the technological state-of-the-art and of the Company's competitive position in the assigned area.

  • Understands and considers how facility design and layout for manufacturing processes and equipment affect economic factors, process flow, operator efficiency and comfort in performance of job duties.

  • Solves IE problems of various levels of complexity.

  • Analyze and interpret systems requirements and definition data to the extent necessary to proactively apply engineering economics principles.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) discipline.

Ability to obtain a DoD Security Clearance (Classified as a US Person)
