SUMMARY:

The Cedar Rapids Community School District in Cedar Rapids, Iowa is seeking a highly qualified Professional School Counselor to lead K-12 School Counselors in the development of a comprehensive school counseling program and to support the implementation of an Academy/Pathway model at the high schools.CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE: Counselor PK-12 or Counselor 5-12, or Professional Service License in School CounselingESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Provide monthly professional learning to K-12 school counselors

  • Coach K-12 school counselors or counseling teams on the development of a Comprehensive School Counseling Program

  • Coach school counselors on leadership in implementing and supporting a strong MTSS in the area of SEBH

  • Work collaboratively with district leaders, school staff, parents and students to coordinate an online learning system (Edgenuity)

  • Serve as the district Section 504 Coordinator, providing training and support to building staff for the determination of eligibility and the development of accommodation plans

  • Serve on District Crisis Response Team, coordinating counseling services and serving as the GWAEA CISM point of contact

  • Work collaboratively with district leaders, school staff, parents, students, and community partners to implement and support the CRCSD College and Career Connected Learning model.

  • Monitor and support building teams to ensure all students engage in the CRCSD continuum of guaranteed experiences.

  • Collaborate with building teams and local partners to develop and deploy work-based learning experiences as defined in the CRCSD continuum of experiences.

  • Annually update and submit the District Career and Academic Plan (DCAP)

  • Support and monitor the implementation of and engagement with the district’s chosen Career Information System (Xello)

  • Manage and disseminate data specific to a Comprehensive School Counseling Program (program assessment and outcomes data) and to College Readiness efforts (FAFSA completion data)

  • Support the maintenance of the district scholarship page in collaboration with the PACT department and the CRCSD Foundation.

  • Assist with District level investigations

  • Other duties as assigned

ESSENTIAL SKILLS/APTITUDES:

  • Knowledge of the ASCA National Model

  • Knowledge of the role of the School Counselor and the ability to advocate for the on-gong development of Comprehensive School Counseling Programs

  • Knowledge of effective coaching practices

  • Experience with and knowledge of Section 504 evaluation, eligibility, and accommodations

  • Knowledge of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with emphasis on attention to detail collaboration, and problem-solving

  • Effective data analysis and report writing skills

  • Willingness to learn with others in regard to district initiatives

  • Commitment to contribute to the education, safety, and wellbeing of all CRCSD students and staff

  • Ability to contribute positively to the productivity of teams

Experience as a school counselor or in classroom teaching in high school preferred LANGUAGE SKILLS:Ability to read, analyze, interpret, and implement ideas contained in technical documents, assessment data, professional journals and regulations. Ability to effectively write reports and communications to students, colleagues, parents and staff. Ability to effectively present information orally and respond to questions from administrators, teachers, staff and students. Ability to assist students in the areas of language and literacy. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:Ability to perform basic mathematical functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, decimals and fractions. Ability to assist students in implementing these mathematical concepts. REASONING ABILITY:Ability to solve problems effectively. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. The position requires the commitment of professional working hours that may require the employee to extend beyond a typical 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. workday.
