UnityPoint Health Associate Report Analyst in Cedar Rapids, Iowa

Responsible for triaging all reporting projects; working with business partners and the Analytics department teams to effectively understand what reporting tool would best support the reporting need. This role will provide education to users on reporting needs as they arise. This position will manage the incoming urgent requests, following up with report requestors, the reporting coordinator and report writers in a timely manner to ensure lines of communication and needs are being met. Responsible for and will assist in facilitating partnerships between all business partners both internally and externally. The Associate Reporting Analyst will work to continually improve the report request, development and distribution processes; and ensuring organizational goals are reflected in reports. The Reporting Analyst will work collaboratively with the UnityPoint Health Strategic Analytics team and others to support the strategic objectives and to ensure the appropriate information is available to drive decision making and support business needs.

  • Support the daily development of reports and extracts by monitoring the report request intake process, and serve as the first point of contact for the customer, triaging all requests ensuring they are utilizing the appropriate reporting tool.

  • Gather data requirements and translating them into basic report specifications for the team.

  • Will use experience to assist the Reporting Coordinator in analyzing new report requests, and work with other members of the Strategic Analytics group and IT to determine the best method for filling the request.

  • Generate daily reports on prior business day’s activities as well as ad-hoc requests as needed.

  • Monitor and investigate trends on a site and agent level basis and make recommendations.

  • Audit reports and presentations for inconsistencies and errors/problems.

  • Schedule daily, weekly and monthly reports and distribute to appropriate personnel.

  • Maintain a working knowledge of Epic data structure to accurately and efficiently report findings in a meaningful and understandable manner.

  • Execute analyses and make the results accessible and relevant to a wide variety of consumers

  • Collaborate effectively with other Epic Reporting team members, the UnityPoint Health IT team, customers, and other IT group members

  • Demonstrate initiative to improve quality and customer service by striving to exceed customer expectations.

  • Balance team and individual responsibilities and put the success of the team above own interests.

  • Provides input into preparation of project plans and monitors own task schedule.

  • Provides timely and accurate documentation.

  • Provides night and weekend on-call coverage as scheduled. May assume additional on-call responsibilities as directed by Department Manager.

  • Provides project status reports on a regular basis for assigned active projects.

  • Maintains regular and consistent attendance at work.

  • Adheres to all UnityPoint Health Personnel policies and procedures, departmental policies and Safety guidelines.

  • Completes special projects and monthly reports as assigned.

  • Performs other duties as requested by Department Manager to facilitate the smooth and effective operations of the department.

  • Adheres to activities that support Epic Good Install and Good Maintenance criteria.

  • Supports Affinity Groups, User Groups, and Governance structure

  • Understands and supports Service Level Agreement for issues resolution. Participates in root cause analysis and problem solving activities to improve customer service.

  • Adheres to Change Management Policies and Procedures.

  • Understands and supports change request processes.

  • Develop, own and manage our report repository, data governance and change management processes.

  • Behaves in a manner consistent with all Corporate Compliance policies, procedures values and behaviors.

  • Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Business Administration preferred or equivalent work experience if the previous experience applies to the specific systems

  • 1-2 years of experience working with Epic in a healthcare IT environment. Preference given to applicants with Epic Reporting Workbench and Clarity Data Dictionary experience and a deep understanding of the healthcare industry, gathering report requirements, and designing and implementing solutions.

  • 1+ years in a role with significant reporting and analysis experience.

  • Certified in an Epic application/modular or certification within 6 months of date of hire.

  • Experience with Epic Reporting Workbench preferred.

  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel including VLOOKUP, SUMIFS, IF, WEEKNUM, Date/Time and Pivot table experience.

  • Fundamental understanding of relational database structures and concepts.

  • Working knowledge of SQL is required. Specifically the ability to read and modify complex Transact SQL queries which may include calculated fields, aggregating row level data, and use of functions.

  • Demonstrated analytical and problem solving experience.

  • Demonstrated strong organizational, time management, prioritization skills.

  • Ability to initiate timely follow up and be a self-starter.

  • Ability to build strong collaborative working relationships with managers and team members.

  • Must be flexible and open to incorporating new reporting tools and solutions in order to deliver best results to the business.

  • Self-starter with the ability to manage and complete abstract assignments.

  • Ability to work as a team member, creating and maintaining effective working relationships.

  • Possesses excellent writing and verbal communications skills and the ability to understand and communicate concepts and recommendations.

  • Ability to understand and deal effectively with problems and opportunities, which arise, in a complex multiprocessing environment is crucial.


  • Achieve Epic Certification within six weeks of attending final Epic course or as outlined in training plan as agreed to between Department Manager and employee. Additionally, an employee will have a maximum of three attempts to pass an Epic exam. If either of these Epic Certification requirements are not met employment will be terminated.

  • Remain current on Epic New Version Training(NVT), as needed for Good Maintenance.
