Job Title: Teacher Leader – MentorReports to: Building PrincipalFLSA Status: ExemptHours: 8.0Days: 4 Additional to 187 as TeacherCompensation: $2,000.00 StipendTo be considered: Applications must include at least 3 (three) letters of recommendation from teachers you have worked with. Applicants cannot be on an intensive assistance plan.QUALIFICATIONS Requires the following (or equivalent qualifications):

  • A minimum of three years of successful teaching experience

  • A minimum of one year of teaching experience in the Burlington Comm. School District

  • Complete a district application

  • Interview with the Teacher Leadership selection committee

  • Commit to a minimum of four additional contract days in addition to regular teaching contract

  • Individuals may not hold another position within the Teacher Leadership System

JOB SUMMARYThis is a ONE YEAR leadership assignment to provide instructional support for 1stand 2ndyear teachers; encouraging, demonstrating, observing and providing feedback to help teachers become more effective at teaching. The teacher will be released from normal classroom duties approximately 5-10%. If selected, a mentor is paid a $2000 stipend through the Teacher Leadership System if the mentor is paired with a beginning educator. Selection does not guarantee a pairing with a beginning educator each year. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Complete the Journey to Excellence mentor training and preparation. (Training consists of two days prior to the start of the school year, two evenings in the Fall and two in the Spring)

  • Guide the educator through Mentor and Induction Learning Projects. A minimum of three non-evaluative observations are required per year

  • Provide assistance to the beginning educator as needed

  • Meet with the beginning educator regularly through in-person contact, phone calls, emails, etc.

  • Attend the whole group mentor/beginning educator meetings with the new teacher

  • Attend district mentor meetings

  • Complete program evaluations and Monthly Contact Logs in a timely manner - Logs are submitted to the TLS Coordinator, building principal, and mentee

  • Develop a trusting relationship with the beginning educator and keep beginning educator’s concerns and issues confidential (Except child abuse or criminal behavior)

  • Inform and help prepare the beginning educator for upcoming events such as open-house, parent-teacher conferences, grade reports, etc.

  • Facilitate observations for beginning educators of other classrooms and engage in pre-observation and post-observation reflective conversations

  • Assist beginning educator in organizing and completing portfolio expectations

  • Other roles and responsibilities as needed
