We have an exciting new opportunity for a Water Resources Design Engineer to join our Ames, Iowa Bolton & Menk, Inc team. This position offers the opportunity for you to join a well-established firm with a long history of superior service.

As a Water Resources Design Engineer (EI) you will spend the majority of your time assisting engineers and project managers in design and construction phase activities on water resources projects. The primary focuses of this position are on storm water management, floodplain modeling, and design. You will assist with assignments designed to develop professional work knowledge and abilities in the areas of hydrology and hydraulics. We are looking for candidates who possess a high capacity for self-motivation and are able to apply engineering and environmental knowledge to a variety of projects. In addition, you must be able to develop and maintain strong relationships with clients and staff from various agencies.

Primary Duties:

  • Perform basic design computations

  • Preliminary layout and design

  • Research and prepare rough drafts of preliminary reports and feasibility studies

  • Assist with project design and preparation of plans and specifications

  • Design of storm water management facilities

  • May assist with technical analysis and documentation:

  • Plan reviews, storm water pollution prevention plans

  • Storm water management planning and design

  • Floodplain analysis and permitting

  • Wetland permitting

  • Grant and funding applications

  • Public outreach

  • Management of budget and schedule

  • Prepare cost and quantity take-off estimates

  • Travel to work sites and other project locations

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering, or related field, from an accredited post-secondary institution with an emphasis in, or elective courses in, water resources is required

  • Must have successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering exam

  • Experience must include hydraulic and hydrologic modeling

  • Effective interpersonal written & verbal communication skills.

  • Strong technical writing ability

  • Computer skills including, but not limited to: MS Office (Word and Excel) and AutoCAD, Civil 3D is preferred

  • Preferred skills:

  • Master’s Degree in Water Resources Engineering

  • Experience with GIS, AutoCAD, Storm and Sanitary Analysis (SSA), XPSWMM, HEC-RAS, ACPF, WinSLAMM, etc.

  • Previous engineering experience in water resources engineering is preferred but not required.

  • Candidates should possess a valid driver’s license and their own mode of transportation.
