Job Description:

The Pre-Award Research Administrator will be responsible for:

  • Reviewing and approving budgets in accordance with sponsor guidelines and ISU policies.

  • Assisting faculty and staff with any issues related to budgets for sponsored project submissions including cost allocation, cost allowance, fringe benefit rates, indirect cost rates, and interpretation of sponsor guidelines.

  • Reviewing information on the GoldSheet (internal proposal routing form) for accuracy and to ensure that information is correctly and consistently recorded in the OSPA database.

  • Reviewing and approving proposals in conformity with university and sponsor policies related to compliance issues.

  • Recognizing conflict of interest issues and potential compliance issues such as research involving human subjects, animals, or radioactive materials.

  • Notifying and coordinating solutions with the Offices of Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer, Research Ethics, University Counsel, and/or the VPR.

  • Providing advice and assistance in researching and interpreting University, federal, state, and sponsor regulations, policies and procedures.

  • Recognizing and providing preliminary review of Federal Acquisition Regulations or other sponsor requirements that are included in a call for proposals or sponsor guidelines and work with appropriate OSPA staff and other ISU offices to resolve issues prior to submission of proposals.

  • Assisting all stakeholders including faculty, departments, colleges, and sponsors on all matters relating to the successful and timely submission of proposals for sponsored projects.

  • Reviewing, correcting and/or coordinating input of all necessary information to OSPA databases.

  • Consulting with and foster productive relationships with relevant campus offices including Sponsored Programs Accounting and college pre-award offices.

  • Serving as representative for OSPA at campus meetings for issues related to research and sponsored programs.

  • Participating and providing input for process improvements and electronic research administration issues within OSPA.

  • Recommending and assisting in the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to sponsored programs administration.

  • Acting on behalf of the OSPA Assistant Director or other OSPA Pre-Award Team staff in their absence.

  • Troubleshooting problems related to proposals (lack of information, etc.) which could involve contacting the sponsor, PI, department or college/VP unit.
