Mary Greeley Medical Center Materials Distribution Technician in Ames, Iowa
Under general supervision; receives purchases of equipment and supplies and distributes to departments throughout the medical center. Receives, stores and distributes stock supplies and manages patient chargeable items from central supply. Distributes and tracks patient chargeable equipment and bills patents accordingly. Actively uses the computer to enter data for equipment tracking, charging, receipts entry, and inventory transactions. Actively uses the computer for sourcing information through purchase order inquiry and stock by location inquiry. Is responsible for inventory accuracy and maintenance. Ensures all actions taken in carrying out responsibilities support patient centered care.
Unit Specific Position Responsibilities
Accept incoming freight from carriers. Inspect for damaged goods and shortages against a packing slip and bill of lading.
Receive equipment and supplies against a purchase order/receiving document and enter the receipt data into the computer.
Stages freight for routing and delivery of non-stock supplies and equipment daily to departments throughout the medical center.
Maintain the storeroom in Central Stores. Put away stock supplies, investigate inventory discrepancies, rotate stock, and check for outdates and observe good housekeeping practices.
Distribute supplies from Central Stores to departments throughout the medical center per departmental requisition, supervisor order entry and the patient floor stock program.
Enter inventory transactions in Lawson through requisition confirmation, receipts entry, inventory transfers and verification of pick lists.
Distribute patient chargeable equipment and special supply carts to patient floors. Track equipment and maintain the billing and credit of patient accounts on a use per day basis.
Perform Omnicell computerized supply replenishment and independently decide bin location changes.
Place orders to the vendor for special care beds and notify them when a bed is discontinued.
Retrieve used furniture, equipment and records throughout the medical center per warehouse requests form and store in the off-site warehouse. Return items to departments upon request.
Perform cycle count of stock items in Central Stores and on patient floors per schedule and makes adjustments to the system inventory count.
Operate the Mary Greeley Medical Center van (automatic transmission).
Prepare and ship out going packages.
Prepares a log and tracks packages, purchase order returns, and other outgoing correspondence for shipment utilizing Fed-Ex software.
File all receiving documents; packing slips, receiving copies, and bills of lading.
Communicate and interact with the medical center staff with regard to delivery problems, receipts, availability of stock, and other requests for assistance.
Operate and maintain a label printer for the production of patient charge stickers.
Make adjustments to system parameters for patient floor stock items as needed per daily monitoring of critical items.
Performs other assigned duties.
Courier Position Responsibilities;
*Perform Courier duties: make daily deposits to local bank, pick up lab specimens from nursing homes and clinics, pick up blood from blood drives, deliver blood to the bus depot for shipment, deliver lab reports and other duties as assigned.
Pick up supplies used throughout the medical center from local vendors and work with purchasing assistants to reconcile problems with downtown purchases.
Transport medical supplies, drugs, mail and laundry to and from off campus facilities.
Distributes linen supplies to departments per par level counts and department-generated requisitions.
Unloads clean linen from vendor tripper carts onto shelves and takes carts to the holding area to be used for soiled pickup.
Counts and fills weekend carts for some departments.
Collects and transports soiled linen from all departments throughout the Medical Center to the soiled holding area awaiting pickup by vendor.
Launders GI Slides, curtains, slings, mops/rags and understand safe utilization of 55 lb. washer and a 75 lb. dryer as needed.
Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience
Required Qualifications (Including any licensure, certification, education):
Possession of a current valid driver's license and must maintain eligibility for coverage under Mary Greeley Medical Center's insurance policy.
Highschool diploma or GED
Required Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
Knowledge of basic arithmetic, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
Ability to read, write and speak English language.
PC application skills.
Ability to interpret and follow oral and written instructions.
Skill in the use of the computer keyboard, calculator and bar code reader.
