Job Description:

The Logistics and Support Services department at Iowa State University is seeking qualified candidates to fill the role of Manager of Postal and Parcel Services (classified as Manager Postal and Parcel). Postal and Parcel Services provides inbound and outbound delivery and metering services for USPS, UPS, FedEx, and DHL. This position manages all aspects of the Postal and Parcel Services operations to ensure operational efficiency, customer service, fiscal responsibility, and compliance with state, federal, and international regulations.

Example of duties:

  • Supervise postal and parcel staff: Directly manage a team of postal and parcel employees, including hiring, training, scheduling, and performance evaluation, to ensure efficient and effective operation of the unit.

  • Manage and oversee the operations of the postal and parcel unit for the university: This includes coordinating daily activities, ensuring timely processing and delivery of mail and packages, managing postal metering systems, and maintaining a high level of service quality.

  • Manage departmental budgets and billing: Responsible for budget planning, rate setting, tracking expenditures, and ensuring financial resources are allocated effectively to support postal and parcel operations.

  • Oversee equipment and facilities: Ensure that postal and parcel facilities, software and hardware, and vehicles are well-maintained, equipped with necessary tools and resources, and compliant with safety and regulatory standards.

  • Provide training as needed: Develop training programs and materials to educate postal and parcel staff on job responsibilities, safety procedures, and customer service standards.
