Merck Associate Director, Diabetes Field Execution in Ames, Iowa

Job Description

The Associate Director, Field Execution reports to the USML for the Diabetes Franchise within the Chronic Care Business Unit. Responsibilities for the role include leading the coordinated field execution of franchise strategy and tactics with the Chronic Care field sales organization and enabling the flow of key customer insights back into the organization to support an industry-leading omnichannel customer engagement experience. In addition, this position will play an important role in contributing to the development of brand strategies across the Diabetes Franchise and will serve as the commercial lead for engaging with the Manufacturing Division related to trade and sample supply.

This position can be based remotely or in the Upper Gwynedd, PA office.

Responsibilities in this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Collaborating with sales leadership and other relevant stakeholders to optimize field execution

  • Identifying and prioritizing training resource development, working with Learning & Development

  • Leading planning for field targeting and KPIs

  • Development and execution of branded communications

  • Development of all field execution resources

  • Leadership of planning and execution of all field sales touch points (national meetings, sales council, web casts, etc.)

  • Ensuring appropriate allocation and utilization of field resources (samples, coupons/vouchers, eResources, etc.)

  • Contributing to the development of brand strategies, informed by customer insights

  • Collaborating closely with the Manufacturing Division to ensure continuity of trade and sample supply across Diabetes brands


Education Minimum Requirement:

  • Required: BS/BA

  • Preferred: MBA

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in sales and/or marketing and/or marketing support roles

  • Strong judgment, prioritization, and decision-making skills with ability to manage complexity and competing priorities

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills

  • Demonstrated success influencing / leading without authority and working collaboratively among cross-functional groups

  • Ability to drive development and execution of strategy, implementation measurement / monitoring plans, and identify opportunities to adjust and optimize execution efforts

  • Innovative thinking, with affinity toward experimentation and appropriate risk taking

  • Strong understanding of all compliance-related concepts, including the laws, regulations and policies that govern pharmaceutical marketing and sales activities

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Two (2) years Marketing experience

  • Pharma sales experience or in-depth understanding of field sales execution

  • Experience with medical / legal review of promotional material

  • Understanding of Customer Centric Selling model
