Summary of Duties and Responsibilities

The Department of Horticulture at Iowa State University is seeking an Agricultural Specialist III who will be responsible for providing advanced scientific and technical support in horticultural fruit crops.

The individual in this position will aid in developing research plans; scheduling and implementing experiments; and data collection and analysis. This position will also be responsible for field work (i.e. planting, harvesting, and cultivation); establishing protocols in collaboration with the manager; authoring or co-authoring scientific publications, reports, and/or grant proposals; and preparing data summaries. In addition, this position will supervise hourly employees.

The successful candidate will possess the ability to plan, initiate, and execute research activities in perennial fruit crops in collaboration with their supervisor. The individual will possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as excellent interpersonal skills in order to interact with experienced scientists in the Department of Horticulture and in the Midwest Grape and Wine Industry Institute.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of related experience; OR a combination of education and related experience totaling 6 years.

  • Education, training, and/or experience in specialty crop production

  • Experience with field and laboratory equipment operation and maintenance
