Job Description:

The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Iowa State University is seeking applicants for an Agriculture Specialist I in the Iowa State Research Farms department.

This position will conduct, analyze and report results of field research experiments to evaluate relative performance of commercial and experimental corn hybrids and soybean cultivars throughout the State of Iowa. The incumbent will coordinate activities with seed companies; prepare summaries; and present results of data analysis.

Excellent communication (both oral and written) skills will be essential for success in this position. The successful candidate will possess the ability to interact with agriculture professionals from a variety of disciplines (agronomy, pathology, seed production, seed sales, plant breeding) in an informed and confident manner. They will be a motivated self-starter with an ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team-based environment. The candidate will also have the ability to balance a variety of projects, prioritize tasks, meet deadlines and produce exceptional results. The essential physical functions of the position require the ability to lift up to 75 pounds. All college employees are expected to interact collegially and in a professional manner and maintain the highest standards of integrity and ethics.

Example of Duties• Collects, records, and summarizes research data.• Manages and coordinates a set of agricultural resources.• Implements research protocols.• Contributes to experimental design, management, and analysis.• Consults with project leaders on experiments, protocol, and progress.• Monitors and oversees machinery and property maintenance and repair.• Assists with field operations.• Observes, diagnoses, and remedies livestock/crop problems.
