3M Advanced Manufacturing Engineer in Ames, Iowa
The person hired for the position of Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for making and lamination operations in the 3M Ames, IA plant. The person hired for the position of Manufacturing Engineer will apply broad knowledge and extensive experience to deal with variations in work conditions and operations to solve complex and diverse problems to deliver results for EHS, quality, customer service, cost reductions and new product development.

Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Drive continuous improvement in lean manufacturing operations.
Lead Lean Six Sigma projects for process efficiency and waste reduction. Use project management tools to convey objectives, timelines, obstacles, and next steps.
Development and implementation of improvements related to safety, quality, service, and cost.
Determine and implement capital improvement projects.
Provide daily engineering support for assigned areas including occasional availability on nights/weekends.
Communicate proactively with key stakeholders (plant, division) on assigned projects and daily assignments.
Understand and use statistical analysis and PPU to improve process. Lead investigation and root cause analysis of customer complaints.
Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M is looking for candidates who must have the following qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or higher in a science or engineering discipline (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution
Minimum of one (1) year manufacturing experience in a private, public, government or military environment
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
Minimum of two (2) years experience in a manufacturing environment
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering from an accredited institution
Experience in leading multi-functional teams through complex projects from planning to completion
Excellent problem solving and analytical skills. Experience with Six Sigma and Lean
Effective written and verbal communication and strong interpersonal skills
Travel: May include up to 10% Domestic
Relocation Assistance: Authorized
