Cooling Engineer
Function Overview
Whirlpool is currently seeking qualified candidates for a Cooling Engineer opening to join our Refrigeration Engineering organization in Amana, IA.
The position may be filled at a different level depending on candidate experience and qualifications
Job Responsibilities
Product development in Refrigeration, working directly with EPI Project teams to develop, execute and implement projects (new projects with new cooling systems, cost and quality improvements, etc)
Overall Cooling system development in Refrigerator products including air flow system design, compressors and heat exchangers selection, product temperature control optimization, gas charge optimization, etc
Lab experimentation for products and components using thermal chambers, wind tunnels, calorimeters, etc., analysis of simulation related to refrigeration system, heat transfer and air flow in the development phases targeting to deliver all product attribute goals such as Energy Consumption, Cooling Performance, Sound, Food preservation, Ice making and Water cooling performance, Cost and Quality, etc.
Development of potential ideas for cost and quality improvement
Support on engineering build with the factory, manufacturing and process teams
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
Experience with refrigeration cooling systems (such as used in household refrigerators)
Preferred Requirements
Bachelor’s or MS Degree in Mechanical Engineering with emphasis on thermodynamics and household refrigeration
Strong thermodynamic knowledge
Good communication skills
Passion about Engineering and Product Development
Willingness to be a great team player
Provide project leadership and ability to work on a team as well as an individual contributor
Ability to understand complex systems and communicate them to other engineering personnel
Yellow, Green Belt or Black Belt Certification – Six Sigma Certification
Thermal sciences background or scholastic research activities thermal sciences
Proficient with technical software such as MS Office, Google Office Suite, ProE, MiniTab, JMP
